What opportunities are there for me, as a student, to get a foothold in event catering, even though I don’t have any experience in the catering industry yet?
We employ many students and are delighted that they often remain with us throughout their studies, deliver outstanding service to our clients and go on to build impressive careers in event catering. This is made possible by our dual event catering training programme, which works as follows:
1. A clear career path with the following roles: Trial placement, Junior Service Crew, Service Crew, Junior Event Assistant, Event Assistant, Senior Event Assistant, Junior Event Manager, Event Manager, Senior Event Manager.
2. In our training modules for Service Crew, Event Assistant and Event Manager, students in particular learn the essential basics of event catering and acquire knowledge and skills specific to the Maiergrill concept. We run these event catering training modules several times a year, and they are also open to non-Maiergrill staff. Our training modules are highly regarded within the event catering industry. 3. A great deal of knowledge and skills are systematically learnt directly at events. This is facilitated by the personal Event Assistant Scorecard and the Event Manager Scorecard, each of which lists around 30 specific tasks that must be mastered in this role. In the junior role, these tasks are demonstrated by an experienced event manager; at the next event, our trainee then demonstrates that they can carry out this task accurately and independently. This is certified by the event manager on their scorecard after the event.
4. Minimum age >17 years. This means that a career in event catering is also open to sixth-form students and other career changers.
We are convinced that our team members gain highly valuable life skills through event catering. Every event catering operation must succeed first time round, and even at 4 am our guests should be able to enjoy our friendly service. Individual performance is trained and strengthened. Implementing the tried-and-tested Maiergrill processes at the right time, in the right place, with the right tools and the right food, and staging a fascinating, unique event that will remain etched in the guests’ memories forever is an achievement of which every team member can be proud.
